What is Lampworking?

Lampwork is a type of glasswork involving a gas fueled torch and rods of glass. Each bead is created by melting glass, wrapping it around a mandrel and applying decorations.

After each bead is made, it is placed in a kiln to anneal. When a bead is annealed, it is held at a certain temperature so the stress from manipulating the glass can be released from the bead. Then the bead is very slowly cooled so no new stress can be added to the bead. This process ensures a nice durable bead that if taken care of properly, can last for generations.
